A strong Worcester defense denied Bristol Ladies a second half come back at The Portway Rugby Development Centre this afternoon, as the hosts fell to a 5 – 22 defeat.

In the last game of the year, which saw the Women’s Rugby World Cup on show pre-match, Worcester took an early lead through Kelly Smith.

The first half saw end to end rugby, with great attack and defense from both teams. A series of missed tackles from Bristol let Worcester through, and they took a 0 – 15 lead into half time.

Bristol started the second half well, creating several chances in the first 10 minutes, with Sydney Gregson finally flying over the try line to put 5 on the board for Bristol Ladies.

As Bristol stepped up a gear, so did Worcester who stay strong in defense and kept the Bristol advance out. Worcester added their fourth try of the day through Laura Keates 5 minutes before the end, which was converted successfully by Megan Goddard – taking the fulltime score to 5 – 22.

Head Coach LJ Adams talked to us after the game ‘Our structure was good – we knew what we wanted to do and worked hard to try and execute it. Unfortunately we failed to build up the momentum after our first try, and let Worcester right back in at us. We needed to build more of a platform, which would have allowed us to get the ball out wide, which is where we are dangerous and very effective’.
