Hove Preview

Hove entertain Championship 2 South-West winners Bath in their first league game of the season.

Last time Hove played Bath in the league at the Rec (… the Hove Rec, not the Bath Rec!) Hove ran out 10-0 winners. Mind you, this was back in December 2013 and both teams have changed a lot since then.

Bath got relegated at the end of that season and have spent the last few years in Championship 2. Last year they won that league and gained promotion into Championship South with an impressive 16 wins out of 18 so they’ll be a tough test.

Hove finished third last season. All of the top three sides traded wins with each other and Hove finished just 7 points off top spot. This season they’ll be looking to maintain that position towards the top of the Championship. After a strong win against Lewes last week, they’ll be hoping to open their campaign with a good win against Bath.

Player to Watch

Our player to watch for the match is second-row Becca Moreton. Originally playing at Old Caterhamians, she featured in the Surrey side that won the 2016 County Championship. She joined Hove last season and quickly cemented her place with powerful runs and an incredible work-rate especially around the breakdown. Her performances earned her a starting spot in the Sussex squad for all of their games at the end of last season.
