Aylesford Bulls premiership opener was always going to be a tough encounter with last seasons league and cup champions visiting the Jack Williams ground. Bulls were solid in the set piece, even securing some opposition ball in both scrum and line outs.
Defensively Bulls were worked hard, stand in fly half Sarah Riordan and skipper Kelly Davies leading the way, but the speed of the champions elusive backs proved Bulls undoing. The score at half time 0-29.
For 15 minutes after the break it looked like a spectacular comeback was on the cards, centre Georgia Grey made a break through and afterburners blazing scorched down the touch line to score. Bulls came close a few times more but the last 20 saw Saracens backs again running riot. Final score 5-69.
With several players making their premiership debuts, 2nd rows Laura Tolley, Rosie Russell and off the bench, Katie Gent, in the backs Caitlain Blanchard, Ashleigh Greenslade and Ciara Walkin, the future is looking bright. Bulls just need to keep working hard and the results should come.
Bulls face Wasps next Saturday 12th September ko 1300.
