Wasps ran in 10 tries against Richmond to remain unbeaten in the Tyrrell’s Premier 15s Development League. With seven tries before half-time, Wasps were in outstanding form proving clinical inside the opposition half. Despite horrendous weather conditions in the second half, both sides put on a determined display to battle through to the final whistle.
Wasps dominance was clear to see from the start of the match, scoring twice within ten minutes. Georgia Wood finishing from close range and Kendall Templeman dotting down shortly afterwards.
Wasps were relentless with great precision to continue to rack up scores. After a strong set piece, the backs connected well in midfield to create space for Makeda Lewis to race over in the corner. The bonus point score followed shortly after for Megan Horwood who scored three on the day.
Flo Williams, who orchestrated the match well from fly-half, gave a great show and go before dotting down in the corner for the fifth try. Megan Horwood scored twice more before half-time with a 50m interception and a strong carry from just inside the Richmond 22m to seal her hat-trick.
As the second half began the weather turned and Twyford Avenue was drenched in rain and hail. Despite the conditions, both sides continued to show endeavour in attack. Sammy Graham darted down the touchline to open the scoring in the second half.
Richmond hit back with their opening score shortly afterwards, after good field position was converted with strong carrying from the forwards.
With a number of changes and conditions worsening, the game began to slow down with handling errors an inevitability. Wasps managed two more scores in the closing stages, both from well weighted cross-field kicks from Flo Williams. The first finished by Deirdre Roberts, and Makeda Lewis scoring her second to finish the match.
Wasps will be delighted with a fantastic team performance, reflected in the score line. With dominance from the forwards and a good connection between the backs, they proved clinical in crossing the whitewash. They will face a mammoth test next week as they play the other undefeated side in the league, Harlequins.
